FDA stated that xylitol is a type of sugar alcohol that is found in some of the sugar-free foods.
Besides intense sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin, sucralose and stevia (all of which are virtually calorie free), there's another group of sweeteners known as 'sugar alcohols', which includes sorbitol and xylitol, that are worth avoiding.
