PV-10 is an injectable formulation of rose bengal disodium (RB) (4,5,6,7-tetrachloro-2',4',5',7'-tetraiodofluorescein disodium salt), which is a small molecule halogenated
xanthene and PV-10's active pharmaceutical ingredient.
Panotico staining was performed according to the following procedures: slides were immersed in (1) 0.1% triarylmethane solution, (2) 0.1%
xanthene solution, and (3) 0.1% thiazine solution; the slides were kept in each solution for 5 seconds.
Riboflavin (RF), camphorquinone (CQ) and
xanthene dyes are commonly used as sensitizers in preparing hydrogels, because they possess biocompatibility and low cytotoxicity [7-9].

xanthene C-H bending out of plane (770 [cm.sup.-1], B), convolution of ethylamine C-C stretching and C-H bending (1190 [cm.sup.-1], C),
xanthene C-H bending (1310 [cm.sup.-1], D), convolution of
xanthene C-C stretching and xanthene-phenyl C-C stretching (1354 [cm.sup.-1], E), and
xanthene C-C stretching (1504 [cm.sup.-1], F) [53].
