From Hebrew ṣīṣīṯ tassel attached to traditional garments worn by Jewish men, cognate with Aramaic ṣīṣīṯā, Syriac ṣūṣīṯā, in the same sense, and also to ṣīṣītu part of a loom, Arabic ṣīṣiya cockspur, thorn of a weaver (an implement used for making the warp and woof even), further etymology uncertain
