It said mainline
nonfuel CASM was 6.66 cents, down 7.6% from August 2005, while consolidated passenger RASM climbed 12.8% to 10.64 cents.
Costs are "on target," it said, with
nonfuel expenses down around 3%.
JetBlue expects cost trends to remain favorable beyond 2018, as it confirmed a long-held target to limit annualized
nonfuel unit cost growth to 1% or less from 2017 to 2020.
Although fuel expense was up 13.7% to $166 million, CASM fell 4.7% to 9.4 cents and
nonfuel CASM declined 4.1% to 6.24 cents.
We have improved
nonfuel identical-store sales in eight of the last 10 quarters and have experienced two consecutive quarters of markedly positive
nonfuel identical-store sales, which we believe confirms that the strategy is working."
After additionally excluding the benefit of the Easter holiday, Safeway reports that
nonfuel identical-store sales were up 1.6%.

nonfuel CASM from previous forecasts was "mostly attributable" to this quarter's weather-related cancellations, AA said.
