The reaction mixture was cooled and basified with ammonium hydroxide solution.

Then, the reaction mixture was basified to pH-9 by the addition of 40% NaOH solution.

The AAL1 was then basified with 70ml of ammonium hydroxide and 300ml of ethyl acetate were added.

The acidic filtrate was then basified with N[H.sub.3] to pH 9 and extracted with ethyl acetate to afford Fraction C (59 g).

Tartaric acid methanol extract basified by the addition of ammonium hydroxide (N[H.sub.4]OH), then extracted with chloroform to separate the alkaloids.

Then reaction mixture was shifted to a 125 mL separating funnel, quenched by 18-20 mL ice cold distilled water and basified by aqueous Na2CO3 solution (10%).

In this way chloroform extract (A), diethyl ether extract (B), aqueous extract basified to pH 9 (D), and aqueous extract basified to pH 11,5 (E) were obtained.

The layers were separated and the aqueous layer was basified with aqueous ammonia until PH 10 and extracted with ethyl acetate.

The filtrate was defatted with hexane, basified with ammonia (pH 10.0) then fractionated with chloroform (300 ml x four times) to yield 20.678 g crude mixture of alkaloids.

The separated solid was filtered and suspended in water and basified with aqueous potassium hydroxide followed by filtration, drying, and crystallization from mixture of DMF and ethanol (9:1) to obtain colourless solid with 65% yield.
